“In the space between the fog of war and the edited news break a young Marine hangs out to dry. . . . What I'm getting at, in this land of free speech and home of brave Marines, is my unequivocal belief that Marine X committed no ‘war crimes’ in that fortified Fallujah mosque last week where he shot and killed a prone and wounded terrorist. He was just doing his job - his hellishly dangerous job - and thank God for him.

“...Seeing may be believing, but a minute of video doesn't tell the whole story. And the whole story is not that an American soldier stormed a house of worship to shoot a pious Fallujah citizen in cold blood - the ‘war crime’ we are led to imagine has happened. The mosque served as a fort; the citizen was an apparently wounded, apparently dangerous combatant; and the Marine was fighting the urban war of his life.

“...Who, among the global millions who have watched NBC's videotaped-shooting, realize that a comrade of the Marine in question was killed by a booby-trapped corpse the day before? That same corpse-bomb wounded five others in the unit. And who, among those same millions, realize that even as Marine X, NBC's global anti-hero, was shooting the enemy he suspected was playing possum, just a block away, another explosive-rigged corpse was killing another young Marine? In that split second of fear and indecision, our guy made the right call.”

- Columnist Diana West

I’ve tried contacting the Marine Corps’ Public Affairs office to find out how to voice community support for this embattled Marine, but the line’s been jammed and the voice-mail boxes are full. However, News & Views reader George Blumel has provided us with an email address where you can send messages of support if you’re so disposed. Send your notes to:

“Of the 3,153 counties in this country, Mr. Bush carried 2,542, while his Democratic opponent, Sen. John Kerry, carried only 611.”

- John McCaslin’s “Inside the Beltway,” 11/19/04

You may recall from a couple days ago that some guy name Tom Madigan of the Irish-American Unity Conference issued a statement referring to President Bush as a “twit” and a “chimp.” Well, apparently such disrespect didn’t set too well with others in the organization, and Tommy was shown the door. We “Micks” know how to take care of our own house!

“Congress is once again engaging in fiscal irresponsibility and endangering the American economy by raising the debt ceiling, this time by $800 billion dollars. . . . Congress has become like the drunk who promises to sober up tomorrow, if only he can keep drinking today. Does anyone really believe this will be the last time, that Congress will tighten its belt if we just grant it one last loan? What a joke! There is only one approach to dealing with an incorrigible spendthrift: cut him off.”

- Rep. Ron Paul, Texas Republican

“A paranoid-sounding Bill Clinton threatened ABC News anchorman Peter Jennings in an interview broadcast Thursday night, in a bizarre rant about his impeachment that laid bare the ex-president's persecution complex. ‘You don't want to go here, Peter,’ Clinton warned, after Jennings told him that historians ranked him second to last of all presidents in terms of moral authority. Squinting his eyes, an angry Clinton seethed, ‘You don't want to go here. Not after what you people did. And the way you - your network - what you did with Kenneth Starr. The way your people repeated every little sleazy thing he did. No one has any idea of what that's like.’"

-, 11/19/04

“In an interview with ABC News Clinton is quoted as having said he never ‘lied to the American people about my job.’ The man is a parsing genius. Extra Credit Assignment: Pick a word -- describing the movement of air -- which, if inserted between ‘my’ and ‘job,’ renders Mr. Clinton's statement wholly inaccurate.”

- Rich Galen’s “Mullings,” 11/19/04

“The reality is, Mr. Clinton’s self-serving spin to the contrary, myriad errors of omission and commission by his administration weakened this country’s response to the al Qaeda threat and made the horror of September 11 much more likely.”

- Washington Times editorial, 11/19/04

“There is absolutely no doubt this nation's immigration system is badly broken and needs repair in the worst way. But disregarding the immigration laws already on the books and giving legal status to individuals entering America illegally would only make the problem much worse.”

- Rep. Charlie Norwood, Georgia Republican

“Among the ballot measures that passed resoundingly in the election is one that no conservative can afford to ignore - Arizona's Proposition 200. It is a measure that will require proof of U.S. citizenship for voting and proof of legal residency for many public services.
“...Much is made of the gay marriage bans that passed in other states, but perhaps no ballot measure survived as much opposition from public officials as did this measure. Despite attempts to portray it as xenophobic, more than 40 percent of Arizona's Hispanic voters supported it. It is a textbook example of common-sense grassroots action by citizens fed up with illegal immigration.”

- Columnist Ian de Silva

The post office is set to propose yet another double-digit percent increase in the cost of stamps. Any such hike would have to be approved by the Postal Rate Commission (PRC).

There is currently a vacancy on the PRC. A former postal worker and union leader, Dawn Tisdale, has been nominated to fill that vacancy at the behest of soon-to-be former Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle. Is there any doubt in anyone’s mind how Mr. Tisdale would vote on a rate hike which would benefit his former employer and union buddies? The conflict of interest and pre-disposed bias this nominee has in such matters is painfully obvious.

Why in the world would Republicans want to put a union leader fox in charge of the post office henhouse?

The Senate is poised to vote on confirming Mr. Tisdale during this “lame duck” session of Congress in a “deal” of some kind that somebody has struck. You know, the kind of “deal” that allowed Arlen Specter to get his Judiciary Committee chairmanship. Why does it seem that all these backroom “deals” come at the expense of limited-government grassroots conservatives?

If you’re sick of these “deals,” please sign our online petition to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist urging that the Tisdale nomination be blocked...immediately and permanently...regardless of any insider “deal.” Enough is enough of this stuff. Add your name by going to:

You can now order your copy of “Ketchup With Your Crow, Mr. Moore?” - a compilation of blurbs and nuggets from the Campaign 2004 trail, sort of a “best of” News & Views book. The full flavor of the 2004 election season is captured in these 150+ pages of quotes and one-liners from the likes of Ann Coulter, Jay Leno, Neal Boortz, Lyn Nofziger, Cal Thomas, John Fund and James Taranto.

Ah, the memories…

· Dean’s scream
· Janet’s boob
· Whoopi’s butt
· John-Boy’s hair
· Gen. Clark bombs
· Al Gore unhinged
· Teresa Heinz unplugged
· Lawrence O’Donnell unglued
· Dems unchained
· Abu Ghraib and the Beheadings
· The president’s amnesty proposal

If you like reading News & Views, you’re gonna LOVE reading “Ketchup With Your Crow, Mr. Moore?” And the last chapter is dedicated to post-election blues...including a host of quotes, commentaries and blurbs which were never published in News & Views. Great new stuff. You won’t feel the left’s pain...but you’ll love it!

“Ketchup With Your Crow, Mr. Moore?” is not available in bookstores or on In fact, I may not sell it retail at least not until after the first of the year. For now there’s only one way to get it. For details, just go to:

I think everything said was actually very reasonable. But, think about this,
suppose you wrote a catchier post title? I mean, I don't want to tell you how to run your website, however suppose you added a post title to possibly get folk's attention?

I mean "News & Views, 11/20/04" is a little boring. You might look at Yahoo's home page and note how they write news titles to grab viewers to click. You might add a related video or a related picture or two to get readers interested about everything've got to say.
Just my opinion, it would make your blog a little bit more interesting.
